Quit Resources provides access to three interventions – Mindfulness Training for Smokers, Sit to Quit and Sure Quit Brief. The interventions have been tested and found to be effective in NIH funded trials.
- Mindfulness Training for Smokers is a 7-week quit smoking group program. It is highly effective and uses 20 short videos, a 111-page manual, audio recording and is led by a certified MTS instructor.
- Sit to Quit is a 2-week quit smoking program with 3 videos, a 25-page workbook, audio recordings and phone support.
- Sure Quit Brief is 1-week self-guided quit smoking program with 1 video and a 17-page workbook.
This website contains the core materials used in each of these interventions. This site is non-commercial and is used to provide access to these interventions for clinicians, researchers, and educators. Nothing can be purchased from this site. Institutions such as universities or medical centers may use these materials at no cost. To use the materials, please sign up for use under the Program Sign Up page. We will contact you to provide details of use. When using the materials, we may ask you to provide some minimal outcomes data such as course enrollment and completion.

Mindfulness Training for Smokers
This highly effective 7-week quit smoking intervention provides 24 hours of treatment (7 weeks of group meetings, and a quit day retreat). It combines medications, skills training, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness training. Course materials include 20 short videos, a 111-page manual, two audio recordings, and close supervision and guidance by a certified MTS instructor. The intervention was designed to treat smokers with high-level dependence, high-level stress, anxiety, or who have had multiple relapses in the past. If you are a smoker who has tried to quit numerous times in the past, this intervention was made for you.
Sit to Quit
This very effective 2-week quit smoking intervention was designed for people who are unable to attend the Mindfulness Training for Smokers 7-week group intervention, but still want to have access to the practices that have been found to be so effective. The intervention provides three short videos (20-30 minutes each) that may be watched at home, a 25-page workbook, and two audio recordings and supervision by a phone counselor certified to teach Sit to Quit. The intervention was designed to treat smokers with high-level stress or anxiety or who have had or multiple relapses in the past. If you are a smoker who has tried to quit numerous times in the past, and cannot attend the 7-week MTS intervention, this intervention was made for you.
Sure Quit Brief
This effective 1-week self-guided quit smoking intervention was developed for smokers who feel that they are able to follow instructions for a self-guided quit program without assistance. It can also be used by those who would like mindfulness training for smoking cessation provided in the more intensive interventions but are unable to participated in these interventions. The intervention includes a single 30-minute video and a 17-page workbook.
